定语、定语从句初探

一般来说,修饰名词作定语的常见形式为形容词、短语( 形容词短语、介词短语等)。如:

a beautiful girl

a girl in front of me

a tree 4 meters tall

那么一个句子放在名词后面作定语当然就是定语从句了,只不过这个从句和那个名词之间要有一个纽带即连接词,在定语从句中叫关系词,被修饰的名词放在从句之前,先行一步,被叫做先行词。

由此可见定语从句的存在要有三个要素即:先行词、关系词、定语从句。如:

The girl who is standing in front of me is my sister.
