1. 基数词和序数词

数词常用来表示事物的数量或顺序，数词可以分两种：基数词和序数词。基数词表示数目(“多少”)如 one，two，three… ;序数词表示顺序(“第几”)如 first，second，third，…，last，next 等，英语的基数词都有其相应的序数词形式，最基本的基数词及其相应的序数词有下列这些：

1.1. 基数词的构成和用法

基数词的构成

任何数词都可以由最基本的基数词构成，例如 21—99 的两位数，就是在十位数和个位数之间加连词符构成。

基数词的用法

1. 基数词在句中可充当主语、宾语、表语、同位语、定语等。

2. 与基数词合成的定语，其中的名词用单数。

3. “In one’s +基数词+位数的复数形式”，这种结构表示“……几十多岁了”。

4. hundred、thousand、million、billion、dozen、score 等词，当它们被具体数词来修饰时，一般用单数形式，不能加 s，当它们前面没有具体数词且与 of 一起连用时，则要用复数形式。

hundred，thousand，million 和 billion

(1) 当前面有具体的数词以及 many，several 等词修饰时，这四个词用单数形式，后面直接跟复数名词。如：two hundred students，several thousand enemies

(2) 这四个词用复数形式跟 of 连用时，表示笼统的数目。如：hundreds of dollars，millions of ants

score 和 dozen

(1) 当这两个词与数词或 many，several 等连用修饰复数名词时，score 习惯上常与 of 连用，而 dozen 很少与 of 连用。如：three score of people，two dozen books，several dozen pencils

(2) 这两个词与 of 连用(of 不可省略)时，可用于宾格人称代词和指示代词所修饰的名词之前，表示所属关系。如：many dozen of them，a score of those girls

(3) 这两个词的复数形式与 of 连用时，表示不确切的数量，意为“许多……，大量……” 如：dozens of words，scores of his tame birds

(4) 这两个词用来限定表示饮料的名词时，不论单数还是复数形式均保留 of 。如：two dozen of wine，scores of coffee

5. 有些基数词还可以用作复数形式，构成一些成语。
