New changes have taken place in Paris in recent years. Paris used to be among Europe’s busiest citie s. Traffic jams could be seen all the time. But now there is a new 2.5 kilometer- long car-free area inside the city. The Louvre(卢浮宫) attracts world tourists. People visit there not just for the art works, but also enjoy the roof of the building which is like a flying carpet. The world’s most beautiful city is now even more beautiful.
Lijiang River National Park, China.

In August, Zurich will host the European Athletic Championships. This gives tourists a chance to see the world’s top athletes making new records.
Adelaide, Australia

One thing the tour books don’t tell you about London is that 2,000 of its residents(居民) are foxes. They ran away from the city about centuries ago after developers and pollution moved in. But now that the environment is cleaner, the foxes have come home,.
“The number and variety of wild animals in urban(城市的)areas is increasing,” says Corner Jones. A survey of the wildlife in New York’s Central Park last year counted 14 species of mammals . A similar survey conducted in the 1890’s counted only five species.
Several changes have brought wild animals to the cities. Foremost is that air and water quality in many cities has improved as a result of the 1970s pollution-control efforts. Meanwhile, rural areas have been built up, leaving many animals on the edges of suburbs. In addition, urban wildlife refuges (避难处) have been created. The Greater London Council last year spent $750, 000 to buy land and build 10 permanent(永久性的) wildlife refuges in the city. As a result , many birds are now living in the city. By 1970 the birds had died out east of the Mississippi because the DDT had made their eggs too thin to support life. That year, scientist Tom Cade of Cornell University began raising the birds for release in cities, for cities afforded abundant food.
Cities can attract wild animals without turning them harmful. The trick is to create habitats where they can be self-sufficient but still be seen and appreciated. Such habitats can even be functional. In San Francisco, the local government is testing different kinds of rainwater control basins to see not only which ones keep the cleanest water but which will attract the most birds.
24.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Wildlife returning to large cities. B.Foxes returning to London.

Many people think computer games are only good for wasting time. Students who play computer games are always thought to be bad students, spending all their time doing nothing meaningful . To parents , computer games mean low exam marks and a lot of money.
But I think electronic games have the same value as courses we take in school. They’re all man-made problems---- waiting to be solved. Above all, they’re demanding and challenging.
Different games may have different effects. If you play well, it could be some help in your studies.
Take me as an example. I played a DOS-run game called “Great Era Of Navigation” for four years. Every time I played a different role in the game, enjoying the extremely realistic feeling of being a sailor, a lookout or a captain on a ship sailing to Europe, America ,or even ancient Asia in the 16th century.
I can say there’s no better game than that. The ship took me all around the world. It carried me to the top of two subjects--- geography and economics.
By leading the ship , I got to know famous sites, rare animals and architecture all over the world. Thanks to the game I know the map of the world very well. I have also investigated most important seaports in Europe and discovered new places in the world to use as ports.
What’s more , while discovering the potential of the game, I also improved my courage and self-confidence.
This is what a real gamer always does. They choose the best game and explore deeply all that a game can offer. They make the most of the chance to use their skills and knowledge.
Also, real gamers are not alone. They get to kno w each other by competing and communicating their skills in the game.
Besides the knowledge and friendship they gain , real gamers can get a little surprise if they write about their valuable experience to online magazines--- they will be paid!
In a real gamers’ opinion, playing games is a way to kill several birds with one stone. Every game can be helpful in every aspect, whether it’s good or not to play games depends on how you deal with it.
28.The passage is written to ______.
A. discuss the two sides of playing computer games
B. argue for the benefits of playing computer games
C. introduce ways to become a real gamer
D. explain how to play the game “Great Era Of Navigation”
29.How did the author start his article?
A. By raising a serious existing problem
B. By stating his personal views
C. By raising the opposite view
D. By giving examples to clarify his opinion
30.In the author’s opinion ,a real gamer gains the following benefits EXCEPT_____.
A. earning money by writing about their experiences
B. making more and more friends with other players
C. applying their and knowledge in the games
D. enjoying competing and being defeated
31.The underlined phrase probably suggests that playing computer games_____.
A. is helpful in many ways at the same time
B. does great harm to the wild life
C. is very costly and tiring
D. can serve as a good way to rest
D
Did Americans really walk on the Moon over 30 years ago? The question sounds ridiculous ? Most people accept that US astronauts first walked on the moon aboard the Apollo II mission on July 20, 1969. But those who don’t believe this have created a lot of doubt.
So the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will produce a mini-book to show that yes, indeed, Americans did land on the Moon.
Those doubt the Apollo moon landings insist that the US lacked technology the Moon at that time. They say that the US was so desperate(不顾一切的)to win the space race against the former Soviet Union that it faked (伪装) the moon landing on movie sets.
The doubters say the fake was done so badly there is obvious evidence that it didn’t actually happen. The film shows astronauts planting the American flag on the Moon, It shows the flag rippling in the wind. Critics say that as there is no wind on the moon , the picture must have been faked. They also say that the film doesn’t include stars in the night sky. And the first men to step on the Moon---astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin have never spoken about their lunar adventures.
NASA explained that the astronauts struggled to plant the US flag on the surface of the Moon. They twisted it around a bit before it stuck and this created the ripples in the flag. The ripples would have disappeared within seconds on Earth, where the atmosphere would have stooped them. But on the Moon, where there is no atmosphere, the rippling carried on , making it look like wind.
The missing stars are easily explained. The pictures in question also show Earth, which looks very bright. It is so bright that it outshines the stars making them look invisible. As for Armstrong and Aldrin, they both have spoken about the mission.
NASA says they do not hope to change every critic’s mind with the look, but they want it to be an educational aid for teachers to prove the critics wrong. An engineer will write the book and it will answer the critics point by point.
32.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Some people doubt whether Americans landed on the Moon
B. NASA will publis h a book on Americans’ Moon landing in 1969
C. Critics had lots of questions about Apollo’s Moon landings
D. American landing on the Moon is nothing but a lie.
33. Which of the following is NOT the evidence critics listed to argue that American astronauts hadn’t really landed on the Moon?
A. The flag rippled in the wind though there was no wind in space.
B. American astronauts landing on the Moon never mentioned their experiences
C. From the film, no stars could be seen in the night sky.
D. The USA hasn’t developed the technology to send humans to the Moon
34. The underlined word “invisible” means_____.
A. much darker B. a bit mysterious
C. Not to be seen D. Not to be visited
35. The purpose of the book is to ____.
A. show why some people don’t believe the Moon la nding story
B. change the critics’ mind
C. emphasize the Moon landing was true
D. provide some reference for educators

On the first day of my new high school, I almost had a nervous breakdown. Everything about the school seemed so difficult. When I got home, my parents said, “You’re nervous and that’s okay. Everyone is afraid of high school.” 36 I wanted to be strong, so I refused to let anyone know about my fear, even my closest friends.
On the first day I was late for every class and was constantly lost. 37 Was this how the whole year was going to be? I didn’t think I could rise to this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. It was so big that I could knock someone out with it! The schoolmates seemed to regard me as a fool, and they were probably right.
38 With the exception of falling up and down the stairs a couple of times and getting laughed at, high school was turning out to be not so bad. It was actually much better than middle school and much more challenging.
Since then, I’ve been elected vice president of my class, which wasn’t much of a victory since only three people ran for the four positions. It is normal to be scared about a new school. Take a deep breath and relax. 39 Make sure you participate in some out-of-class activities because you’ll find it easier to make friends. Try to do your best, even if it isn’t straight A’s.
Most important of all, be who you are, whether you’re a “fool”, an athlete, or a lower grader. 40 Now you know the true secrets of high school.
A. I denied it.
B. I didn’t get any school schedule.
C. Don’t try to pretend to be someone you’re not.
D. My schoolbag was really too heavy for me to carry.
E. H igh school is something that any student can overcome.
