When I left my bag on a train, I lost my most precious possession, a small framed photograph of my great grandparents, Emily and Gordon Baker. The frame was made of silver, with an elegant flower design in one corner. The photograph was taken in March 1939 on their wedding day. Emily looked very happy, and Gordon looked rather alarmed.  A few months later, he was killed in action in North Africa. I received the photograph when my aunt Mabel died.

I'm a student at Edinburgh University and I live in an old Edwardian house.  At the end of last term, I packed a large bag and a small bag and set off for London, where I was planning to catch the Eurostar train to Paris. Minutes after getting off the train at Kings Cross Station, I realized that I'd left the small bag in the overhead luggage rack. I ran back to the train, but it had already left the platform.

This all happened several months ago, and I had become resigned to the loss of my most precious possession. Then last week, something extraordinary happened. I logged onto the site Bay and looked for a silver photo frame and I found it ! The photo of my great grandparents was on Bay !

I called the person who was advertising it. He was a little suspicious at first, and told me that he had bought it from a stall at an antique market. After we talked for a while, he asked if there was any way I could prove it was mine. All I could think of was that the photo was taken in March 1939. He opened the frame and made sure that this date was written by hand on the back of the photograph.

“It ' s definitely yours. " he said.  "Come and get it ! "

President Barack Obama has complained about the loss of privacy that comes with being leader of the United States, regretting the loss of simple pleasures such as a long walk or a trip to the car wash or supermarket. "I just miss - I miss being unknown," he said. I miss Saturday morning, rolling out of bed, not shaving, getting into my car with my girls, driving to the supermarket, squeezing the fruit, getting my car washed, taking walks. I can't take a walk. " His dream, he said, was to "go through Central Park and watch folks passing by . . . spend the day watching people - I miss that".

Faced with angry criticism for playing more golf than most previous occupants of the White House, he explained that the sport was simply the best way of getting away from it all. "It's the only excuse I have to get outside for four hours in a row," he told Hearst magazines.

Though he said he enjoyed his life in the White House, he felt disappointed with some of the ways of Washington, which he has failed in his commitment to change, such as the "kabuki dance"(日本歌妓舞) among political parties before serious policy discussions begin. His comments may be seen as vindication(证实) by critics who have accused him of appearing too detached(超然的) , and being slow to engage in vital issues such as Libya and the near shutdown of the US government last week.

Since arriving at the White House in January 2009, Mr Obama has already scored 60 rounds of golf in office, more than George W Bush did in his eight years.

In terms of ability, Golf Digest magazine has ranked Mr Obama eighth out of the 18 presidents who played the game since it became established in the early 20th century.

Increasingly, Americans are becoming their own doctors, by going online to diagnose their symptoms, order home health tests or medical devices, or even self-treat their illnesses with drugs from Internet pharmacies(药店).Some avoid doctors because of the high cost of medical care, especially if they lack health insurance. Or they may stay because they find it embarrassing to discuss their weight, alcohol consumption or couch potato habits. Patients may a1so fear what they might learn about their health, or they distrust physicians because of negative experiences in the past.  But playing doctors can also be a deadly game.

Every day, more than six million Americans turn to the Internet for medical answers ---most of them aren't nearly skeptical enough of what they find. A 2002 survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 72 percent of those surveyed believe all or most of what they read on health websites. They shouldn't. Look up “headache”, and the chances of finding reliable and complete information, free from a motivation for commercial gain, are only one in ten, reports an April 2005 Brown Medical School study. Of the l69 websites the researchers rated, only l6 scored as “high quality”. Recent studies found faulty facts about all sorts of other disorders, causing one research team to warn that a large amount of incomplete, inaccurate and even dangerous information exists on the Internet.

The problem is that most people don't know the safe way to surf the Web. “They use a search engine 1ike Google, get l8 trillion choices and start clicking. But that's risky, because almost anybody can put up a site that looks authoritative(权威的), so it's hard to know Whether what you're reading is reasonable or not,” says Dr. Sarah Bass from the National Cancer Institute.

64. According to the text, an increasing number of Americans      .

A. are suffering from mental disorders

B. turn to Internet pharmacies for help

C. like to play deadly games with doctors

D. are skeptical about surfing medical websites

英语试题第7页(共11页)

65.  Some Americans stay away from doctors because they    .

A. find medical devices easy to operate

B. prefer to be diagnosed online by doctors

C. are afraid to face the truth of their health

D. are afraid to misuse their health insurance

66.  According to the study of Brown Medical School     .

A. more than 6 million Americans distrust doctors

B. only 1/l0 of medical websites aim to make a profit

C. about l/10 of the websites surveyed are of high quality

D. 72% of health websites offer incomplete and faulty facts

67. Which of the following is the author's main argument?

A. It's cheap to se1f-treat your own illness.

NASA’s Kepler space telescope has discovered three planets that may be able to support life, while one of them is the most earth-like world spotted to date, scientists say.

Two exoplanets(系外行星) have been discovered in their stars’ habitable zones─the right range of distance where liquid water can exist on a planet’s surface.

Kepler-62f is a rocky world 1.4 times bigger than Earth and circles a star smaller and darker than the sun. Its neighbor, Kepler-62e, is just 1.6 times larger than Earth. Both are the smallest exoplanets ever found in their stars’ habitable zones.

Both Kepler-62e and f, “look very good as possibilities for looking for life,” said Bill Borucki, the Kepler science researcher, of NASA’s Ames Research.

The third earth-like planet confirmed by the scientists is Kepler-69c, standing at 1.7 times bigger than Earth and orbits (绕……运行) a star similar to our own sun. Borucki said it

“We’re moving very rapidly towards finding the Earth-like around a star like the sun,” Borucki told SPACE.com. Kepler-69c lies 2,700 light-years away in the Cyngus constellation(天鹅座星系).

The three probably habitable worlds are part of a larger find. Scientists have discovered a total of seven new exoplanets, five in the Kepler-62 system and two in Kepler-69.

The five newfound planets range from 0.54 to 1.95 times the size of earth, but only Kepler-62e and f are likely habitable.

D. Kepler-69c > Kepler-62e > Earth > Kepler-62f.
