Step one: warmer Play a game: Simon says. Stand up. Sit down. Point to the window. Point to the door. Turn around. Touch the sky. Touch the ground. Step Two: Learn the new words. 1: left, right, straight by the gesture to learn them. E.g. Put up your left/right hand. Turn left/right. Go straight on. 2: excuse me, West Lake Road, East Lake Road When you want to know a place how to ask a helper: “Excuse me. Where is the …?” West-------east road------street lake A: Read the words together./ one by one./ in groups. B: A guessing game: Which one is missing? Step three: presentation A: listen and find : Where does Daming live ? Does Sam find Daming’s flat? B: Answer the questions. C. Listen and find : Turn left! Turn right! Go straight on! Meanwhile circle them. D. Listen and repeat. Play the cassette again, pausing after each utterance for the children to point at the corresponding picture. Perform a simple gesture to indicate the meaning, for example, pointing straight on, pointing left, pointing right, miming talking on the telephone. E: Play the cassette again. This time pause for the class to repeat each utterance. Encourage the class to perform appropriate actions as they repeat. F: Repeat this activity, asking individual students to repeat the utterances. Step Four: Act it out 1. Divide the class into four groups. Give each group a role, either Lingling, Daming, Sam or the policeman. Each group says the corresponding role in the conversation. 2. Now divide the class into groups of 4. They act out the dialogue and perform appropriate actions. 3. Move around the class to offer praise and encouragement. Say Very good! Well done! Or Clever boy/girl! When a child does something particularly impressive, invite the class to clap. Say Clap, everyone! You can then give the child a sticker. Homework: Read the text fluently and try to recite it. |
