C. get consumer debts to pay off the mortgage loan.

D. get the high rates to pay off the mortgage loan.

正确答案是

Now scan the passage and answer the questions.

First, make an honest assessment of your lifestyle and financial situation. Then consider what kind of financial burden you will bear when you buy a home. Be prepared for sacrifices in your lifestyle. Typically, 30% of home-owners’ annual family income goes toward mortgage payments, says Linda Wong, principal consultant with the Allen Perkins Group. This can be a frightening prospect, especially when you’re already weighed down by education loans, consumer debts and other financial obligations. Edwin Khoo, vice-president of Citibank in Singapore, recommends consolidating your personal loans and increasing the amount of your mortgage loan to pay off those debts. Consider that credit cards or overdrafts, for example, tend to have higher interest rates than a mortgage loan. "The interest rate on your credit cards may be 24% but the interest rate on your mortgage may be only 8%," he says. "By increasing your mortgage loan to pay off the loans with higher rates, you’ll save on the interest."
