DPRK says U.S. mainland within its target range
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) said Tuesdaythat the U.S. mainland is within the target range of its strategicrocket forces, the official KCNA news agency reported.
A spokesman for the National Defense Commission of the DPRKannounced that the country is equipped with strategic rocketforces now able to place the U.S. mainland territory, SouthKorea, Japan and Guam within its target range.
"We are well prepared to fight with nuclear (weapons) against any nuclear (attacks) by the U.S. and its followers," said the spokesman, vowing to launch all-out efforts to match the United Statesand South Korea.
"Nuclear for nuclear, missile for missile," he said.
The spokesman lashed out at the U.S. ambition "to lay strategic siege network to Asia," addingthat Pyongyang "will show the real bitterness of a war that the world has never known orimagined."
The announcement came after the South Korean presidential office said Sunday that under arevised pact with the United States, Seoul planned to develop ballistic missiles with a tripled range of 800 kilometers, which could cover the entire peninsula, as part of its efforts to better respond toperceived missile threats from the DPRK.
Critics said South Korea's extension plan ran counter to its commitment as a member of the globalarms control agreement, known as the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), an informalassociation that aims at curtailing the spread of unmanned delivery systems that could deliverweapons of mass destruction.
However, the White House on Sunday defended South Korea's pursuit of longer-range missiles.

声明强调，朝鲜针对美国和韩国等各种势力做好了一切准备，将“以核回应核，以导弹来回应导弹”。
声明最后表示，韩美“导弹政策宣言”隐藏着美国建立对亚洲大陆的战略包围网，破坏这一地区的和平与稳定，并借此确立美国对亚太地区控制权的企图。
这是朝方首次对韩美商定将韩国弹道导弹射程增至800公里做出反应。
