Instant Polls Say Obama Won Final Debate
President Barack Obama won the third and final presidentialdebate against his Republican rival Governor Mitt Romney, according to instant polls released by CNN and CBS News.
Monday night, CBS News said that its poll of 521 undecidedvoters said the president had won the night by a 53% to 23% margin over his GOP counterpart, with a further 24% sayingthey thought it was a tie. CBS said the margin of error in its poll was +/- 4 percentage points.
CNN said Mr. Obama won by eight percentage points among the debate watchers it polled, 48% to 40%, with a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percentage points. CNN noted the Obama win was withinthe margin of error. The network didn't say how many respondents there were to its poll.
Public Policy Polling, a Democratic polling firm, took the temperature of 500 swing voters in 11 states, concluding that Mr. Obama won the debate by a margin of 53% to 42%, with 5% undecided. PPP didn't say what its margin of error was.
Mr. Obama lost the first debate between the two candidates, opening the door for strong gains byMr. Romney among voters. The president fared better in the second debate, but the race is nowneck and neck.
It won't be known for a few days how national voters, or those in the handful of states likely todetermine the outcome of the election, will react to Monday's final debate.
