As a normal teenager, I study at school. Everyday, I begin a day’s study from the morning reading in the classroom, then have 7 classes—that is what you do in China, and finally go back home with a somewhat big amount of homework. I do not think this kind of education is literally appropriate for me. First of all, courses cannot be chosen where I study, so I have to pay equal efforts on every of them. It is not fairly scientific, because everybody has his or her own interests and strengths. Secondly, the classes here are too big—mostly with 50~60 students. It is really difficult to make the teaching appropriate for everyone. Therefore, students of high level and those who are under it must study together, and the former will waste lots of time while the later will not get a handle on what they study. Furthermore, homework is also a tough stuff. It usually takes me too much time to finish them—and the time, which should be used to pursue my hobbies and learn more things, are wasted on what I have already mastered.
So, if possible, I would choose to study at home, so I can choose what to study and how to study more freely, and get rid of the restriction of the examinations and the so-called “universality”. School supporters may argue that study at home can cause the lack of social skills—how to deal with people, how to withstand some difficult proofs. For me, it is not a problem. You should be meticulous that studying at home does not equal to never going out—contrarily, you will have much more time to go out to meet friends and get you social affairs done.
In short, studying at home has a lot of advantages, and they should be noticed by parents who are thinking of sending their children to school, because school is not for everyone.
