Directions: modern societies need specialists in certain fields, but not in others. Some people therefore think the government should pay university fees fo students who study subjects that are needed by society. Those who choose to study less relevant subjects should not receive government funding. What's your opinion?
Although varieties of subjects are available for students in university, all of them don't meet with the urgent need of economic construction. Some people advocate that the government should take measures to lead students to choose subject which are wanted by society.So here comes an advice that the government pay university fees for the students who study majors that are needed by society.
We cannot deny that this policy can bring the benefits. First, with the help of the goverment, students can disregard the burden of the tuitions and concentrate on preparing for the examinations. In such way can universities admit excellent students who have defeated thousands of other competitors. In addition, as for the students who are studying in university , the fundings will encourage them to enhance their academic ability, which in return elevates the research level of the subject.
However, it must be recognized that the government's incentive also havs bad aspects. Obviously ,the policy , just like a baton, will conducts students to pour into the hot subjects and pay no attention to the ones lesser relevant; consequently the reasonability of the structure of subjects may be damaged. Moreover, the competition among students must become so fierce that some of them who are not fit for the subject fail and give up and obtain nothing. What's worse, the manifest prejudice of the government against the less popular subjects is certain to arouse the public's complaints by saying," How unfair the government is. It is doing injustice to the students who have not studied the majors needed by the economic development ."
To sum up, the advantages of such an education policy do not overweigh the disadvantages, even are much less than the latter. Faced with such a dillema, the government has to think about the gains and losses and turn to other better ways.
