1. 表示“检查”，注意以下与动词和介词的常用搭配：
He made an examination of the room. 他检查了房间。

2. 表示具体的一次一次的“检查”或“考试”，它通常是可数名词，但有时表示抽象意义的检查或考试，则为不可数名词。如：
Admission to this school is by examination. 进入该校须经过考试。
On examination I found the goods of poor quality. 我一检查就发现了这些货物质量不行。
【注】under examination 在检查中，在审查中。如：

【注】“参加考试”可用动词 take, 但不用 take part in。如不说：I didn’t take part in the exmination.
(2)表示某一方面的考试，可直接用名词用定语，也可在其后接介词 in。如：a maths examination(数学考试)，an examination in chemistry(化学考试)。
