3. How to scan passage 2 to find specific information to answer questions.
It requires students to read the passage quickly and find useful information. It’s a little difficult for students to get specific information quickly.
V. Teaching Methods
I will use the Communicative Language Teaching and Task-based Language Teaching. Communicative Language Teaching mainly includes asking and answering and discussing. Task-based Language Teaching mainly includes fast-reading, reading aloud, silent reading, skimming and scanning. Through these teaching methods, students will understand the text better and develop their own reading strategies in their future work.
2. Teaching Aids: a picture, a blackboard, a projector and a computer.Teaching aids are important for me, I will show the students the picture to arouse their interest and guide them to predict passage 1. The blackboard is a main tool to demonstrate my teaching contents to students. The projector and the computer help me demonstrate some important contents.
VI. Learning Methods
As for learning, I will encourage and guide the students to read independently. Fast-reading, reading aloud, silent reading, answering, skimming, scanning and discussing are the main forms of the students’ learning in my class. Besides, the purpose is to guide students to develop their reading strategies, use what they have learnt to express their views and enhance cooperation spirit.
VII. Teaching Procedures
Step I Preview (5 minutes)
1. Ask students to read vocabulary for 2 times on page 2 together.
2. Ask students to finish questions bellow the vocabulary box.
These words will appear in reading. Reviewing these words can help students both remember what they have learned and prepare for the following passages.
Step II Pre-reading of passage 1 (5minutes)
1. Show a picture which is about a boy playing in the rain to students. Then ask students to say what they have seen.
2. Guide students to speak out what consequence the boy in the picture will get. Then guide students to predict the story of the passage.
This picture is closely connected with passage 1. The picture to students can arouse the interest of students. They can be also easily clear about the plot of passage 1. I want to develop students’ ability of prediction in this way.
Step III While-reading of passage 1 (5minutes)
1. Read passage 1 quickly.
2. Ask 2 students to play roles. One reads Zhou Kai’s words. The other reads Zhou
Kai’s mother’s words.
I ask students to read quickly to get the general understanding. Then I ask 2 students to
read aloud, which can develop students’ pronunciation and get them understand passage1 better.
Step IV Post-reading of passage1 (3minutes)
Ask students to finish 3 questions of activity 2.Step X Homework (1 minute)
1. Find difficult language points;
2. Make a composition about students’ opinion on Zhou Kai’s lifestyle.
In this class, I just analyze 2 passages from general aspects: the plot, main ideas, specific information and general understanding. So let students find difficult language points and I will deal with them the next class. This task can develop students’ ability of self-study through finding out difficulties by themselves. I ask students to make a composition, the topic of which is from the second question of activity 3. The topic is closely related to these 2 passages. I want to help students develop abilities of self-thinking, co-operation and analyzing problems.
