Andrew, a 12-year-old boy who was on the bus, said that all the children were asleep at the time of the accident. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined. Police said the bus went down a hill and landed on its side. Two girls and two boys were killed on the spot and several other people were thrown out of the bus. Thirty-six people were treated in hospital. Luckily, most of them are now out of danger.
The school remained open on Friday. School officials were sent to the homes of the four who died. The children are very upset, with many crying and hugging each other. Parents gathered outside the school gate looking rather worried.Text 4W: Morning. Tom. You're so early today. And you look so tired. What happened?
M: Morning, Linda. I didn't sleep well last night. It's because of the plan for the design. You know, I've been working on it for several days, but still haven't finished. Yesterday our boss said I'd be fired if I couldn't finish it by the end of this week. So I stayed up last night. And I got up very early this morning and came here without having breakfast. I'm afraid I'll have to stay up again tonight.
W: I know you're working very hard these days, but you should take care of yourself. Have this cup of tea before you start working. Can I help you? You know I'm good at typing. Let me help you type the plan out.
M: Thank you very much. I'd like to write the plan out this morning and then discuss it with our department manager. If there's nothing wrong, I'll get it typed out and send it to our boss as soon as possible.
W: OK. I'll try to finish my work as quickly as I can. Then I'll see if I can help you. How does that sound?
M: Thank you very much, Linda. You're always so kind.
W: Don't mention it. Let's get to work. The boss is coming.Text 5 M: What should you do when you have a fever? Take some aspirin! Yes. Every year Americans swallow about 15,000 tons of aspirin. It's considered one of the most effective drugs ever invented. As the most popular medicine in the world today, aspirin can relieve all kinds of pains. Many people take aspirin for headaches. It also reduces fever. And for thousands of people who suffer from arthritis, it's the only thing that works. It's a household name, and even children are familiar with it. People keep aspirin at home, in their offices, and even in their pockets so that they can use it whenever they feel sick.
Aspirin was invented in the 19th century and first sold in 1899 by a German company. By 1915, aspirin was available in the United States. Aspirin is truly the 20th century's wonder drug, and has even found its way into literary works. Next time you don't feel well, maybe an aspirin will do the trick. But one thing should be mentioned: although no side effects have been found for aspirin, you'd better ask your doctor about taking it first. That is to say, you shouldn't form the idea that aspirin can treat every kind of disease.Text 6W: Now let's go back to your first novel, Rag Doll. When did you write it?
M: Rag Doll, yes. I wrote it in 1960, one year after I left school.
W: How old were you then?
M: Um, eighteen? Yes, eighteen, because a year later I went to Indonesia.
W: Um. And of course it was your experience in Indonesia that inspired your film Eastern Moon.
M: Yes, that's right, although I didn't actually make Eastern Moon until 1978.
W: And you worked in television for a time, too.
M: Yes. It was after I gave up farming that I started making documentaries for television in 1973.
W: Farming?
M: Yes, that's right. You see, I stayed in Indonesia for eight years. I met my wife there in 1965, and after we came back we bought a farm in the west of England in 1970. It was really a trying time.
W: And you gave it up three years later.
M: Well, you see it was very hard work, and I was also very busy working on my second novel, The Cold Earth, which came out in 1975.

听力原文Text 1M: Julia, I can't believe it! I only got a B on my physics test.
W: Why are you complaining? That's not a bad grade, I think.
M: I prepared for it for weeks. I spent several days reviewing my books. I really thought I'd done a good job. I even missed going home last Sunday.
W: Well, a B isn't bad. I don't see why you're so upset.
M: David got an A. You know, he didn't spend half as much time preparing as I did. I just don't understand it.
W: David always gets good grades in physics. He is very good at it. Er, if you're still not satisfied, why not ask the teacher why she just gave you a B?
M: I am afraid I am not in the mood to speak to her.
W: Maybe your grade can't be changed. Try to find out what you're weak in and try to improve on your next exam.
M: I suppose that is the right thing to do. Thank you very much.Text 2M: Susan! What's wrong? You look pale.
W: I just had a terrible experience.
M: What's up? Did you have an accident on your way?
W: On the zebra crossing just now, I was almost hit by a taxi. Fortunately, I fell off my bike and got out of the way.
M: How terrible! Did you get the number of the taxi so that you can report it to the police?
W: No, I didn't. It had gone before I realized what had happened. Anyway, I'm OK now. Let's go to class. There are only a few minutes left.
M: Drivers like that should have their licenses taken away by the police.
W: Maybe you're right, but maybe I should have been more careful when I was crossing.
M: Anyway, I think you'll remember the experience for a long time.
W: I'm sure I will. And in future, I'll be more careful on zebra crossings.Text 3M: Good morning. Can you tell me the times of the morning flights to London, please?
W: Yes, certainly. There are daily flights at 8:30 and 10:20.
M: And when do they arrive in London?
W: The early flight arrives at 20:40 and the mid-morning one at 22:30.
M: It's a long trip.
W: Yes. And remember, you have to be at the airport one hour before the plane takes off.
M: Of course. When I arrive, how can I get to the city centre? My hotel is downtown.
W: There are buses every half hour, and the journey takes about 40 minutes. Just walk out of the airport, and you'll see the bus stop. Many buses go through the city centre.
M: Fine. How much is a single plane ticket?
W: Single? Er, let me see. 450 dollars. And you get a ten percent discount.
M: OK. I'd like to book two tickets for the early morning flight to London on May 21.
W: Two tickets, the early morning flight, May 21. Is that right?
M: Yes, that's right. Thank you very much.Text 4W: In the high mountain country outside the city of Toluker, there stands a prison. This prison is quite different from other prisons. The guards, except for two at the main gate, are not armed. And there are many other remarkable things about this prison. For example, of the 15,000 individuals imprisoned at Toluker, less than two percent have gotten into trouble again with the law. Men in this open prison are free to find work outside, but must go back to prison each night. On the weekends they are allowed to go home. While all prisons send criminals back into society, Toluker is returning people who can stand on their own feet and contribute. In 1974, a prisoner named Bob Crook was moved to the open prison. A year later, he left Toluker for the last time. He was then already forty-six, and had been in prison for fourteen years. He got a job as a construction worker in the city, remarried, and became a useful member of his community. If you ask Bob why Toluker works, he would say, "Because they still believed in me when I was at my worst."Text 5W: Excuse me. I haven't seen you here before. Are you a newcomer?
M: Yes. I've only been here for a few days. What about you?
W: Same here. I'm a student at Washington University, and this is my part-time job.
M: I see. I just graduated from college, and applied for a job with this company. I managed to get chosen from among hundreds of applicants. I'm lucky to be working here.
W: Do you plan to work here long? It's not a big company, and the pay's not really satisfactory.
M: I like the company because the boss manages it well. I think it has a bright future, so I imagine I'll be working here for some time.
W: Maybe you'll change your mind if you get a chance to work for a large company. I once worked for one in the western part of the city. I liked the atmosphere there.
M: I get the feeling you don't like working here. Why do you come here to work?
W: Because it's near my university. It doesn't take me long to get here, and I only work on the weekends.
M: Well, I'm proud to be a full-time worker here. I like the other workers here, and I think I'll do well.
W: Good luck to you then. And nice meeting you.
M: Thank you. Nice meeting you, too.Text 6With the spread of computers, the Internet has been playing a more and more important role in our daily lives. In recent years, the number of net users has been multiplying. Take China for example, a new study shows that China's Internet Community has grown 128 times in a little more than 6 years. There are now millions of net users in the country, a great jump from the 620,000 users recorded in 1997, when the computer industry was just beginning its rapid growth. The number had grown to 79.5 million by the end of 2003, and about 11.5 million new users were recorded in the last half of 2006. In fact, China had more Internet users than Japan by the end of 2002, jumping to second in the world after the United States. It's estimated China had the largest number of Internet users in the world by the end of 2007. Still, the current number is only 6.2 percent of the country's total population, and the majority of Internet users are people between the ages of 18 and 30. So the number of users in China will continue to increase. And with this happening, something really needs to be done to provide a healthy environment for net users.

听力原文Text 1W: Mike, do you want to play tennis this weekend?
M: Susan, I'm afraid I can't play tennis.
W: No? Are you joking? I'm sure you can play tennis. Everybody can play tennis.
M: Well, I can't. But I can play golf.
W: Really? I can play golf, too... but not very well.
M: I have an idea. Why don't we play tennis this weekend and then, next weekend, golf?
W: OK, that's a good idea. You can't play tennis and I don't play golf well. We both can learn a new sport!
M: That's it. I think it's a wonderful idea!
W: Now, tell me about your new job? When do you start?
M: Next week. I'm in the accounting department. I make telephone calls to banks, check the accounts, keep records, you know, that sort of thing.
W: It sounds like an excellent job.
M: How is your job?
W: Oh, it's OK. But it's boring. I work at the computer all day long, each and every day at the computer.
M: I'm sure it isn't that bad!Text 2W: Hi Ted, you've gotten bigger since the last time I've seen you.
M: Yeah, since I got married I've been putting on weight. My wife is a good cook.
W: Don't blame your wife's good cooking. You need to start exercising again.
M: I know I should. But after I come home from work, I'm too tired to exercise. And I don't have any place to work out either.
W: Have you thought about joining a health club?
M: I have. But they're expensive.
W: I'm a member at Spa Fitness and you'd be surprised at how inexpensive a year-long membership is. Most of the members are "normal" people who exercise for about an hour three times a week.
M: Sounds reasonable. I mean, you look like you are in shape.
W: Well, I haven't always been this thin. After I turned 30, I started putting on the pounds. I was feeling fat and I didn't have any energy.
M: That's how I feel. I mean, exercise sounds like something that is going to make me feel more tired.
W: But once you start on a regular exercise program, you start feeling better immediately.Text 3M:Very nice to see you, Joan. This is a wonderful party.
W:Nice to see you. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. Well, would you like something to drink?
M:Yes, I would like a glass of white wine. Thank you.
W:You're welcome. It's too bad that your wife couldn't join us tonight. I understand she had to leave town on business in Washington.
M:Yes, unfortunately.
W:So that leaves only you to take care of your son?
M:Yeah. We used to have a girl look after him, but now he's old enough to stay home alone.
W:How old is your son?
M:He's fourteen years old, and now he is at JFK High School.
W:Wow! Our youngest goes to school there as well. She will graduate this spring.
M:Does your daughter already know what she wants to do after graduation?
W:She's thinking about going to Boston University.
M:Oh, Boston is such a wonderful city for young people. In fact, I went there just last weekend. I just stopped for dinner on my way back from a skiing trip.Text 4 Barbara couldn't take it any more. Her upstairs neighbor was playing music very loudly again. She had asked him twice already to turn the stereo down. The first time she asked, he was surprised. He said he didn't know that she could hear his stereo.
"Yes," she said, "it's just like your stereo was in my living room. I can hear every note."
He said he would keep it down. She hoped that he was telling the truth. Of course, he wasn't. The very next day, he played the music loudly again. She went upstairs to remind him of his promise. He said the music was so low that he could just hear it. She asked him to turn it down. He said he would try. However, when she came back to her apartment again, the music was louder than when she had walked upstairs.
So, this was the third time. She took her baseball bat upstairs with her. She knocked very loudly on his door. When he opened the door, she screamed at him like a crazy person. She told him she would kill him if he didn't turn the stereo down. His eyes got big.
She went back downstairs. She couldn't hear a note.
"I can't believe I said that," she told herself.Text 5M: Do you like living in the big city?
W: Yes. I like living in the big city because there are many things that are better than living in the country! You know, it is more interesting than the country and there is much more to do and see! Besides, it is much more convenient to live in the city.
M: Yes, you are right, but the city is more dangerous than the country and it is also crowded and polluted.
W: I agree with you. It's true that people in the city aren't as friendly as those in the country.
M: So I'm sure that the country is more relaxing! It also has fresh air and is a quieter environment to live in. It's cleaner and less dangerous in the country. So life in the country is much healthier than in the city. Besides, there is the cost of living. Living in the country is much cheaper than in the city. So personally, I like living in the country.
W: But the country is much slower than the city. It is so slow and boring! It's much more boring than the city. And the city is much more exciting. It's faster, crazier and more interesting than the country.
M: I think you are crazy for moving to the city.
W: Well, I'm young now. Maybe when I'm married and have children I'll move back to the country.Text 6 I get up every day at 7:00 in the morning. School starts at 8:00, so I need at least an hour to get ready. After I wake up I go downstairs and eat the breakfast prepared for me by my mom, who wakes up even earlier than me. Even though it only takes me fifteen minutes to eat breakfast, I spend about half an hour downstairs finishing my breakfast and watching my favorite cartoons before going back upstairs to take a shower. After eating breakfast, watching TV and taking a shower, it is usually about 7:45. This leaves me just enough time to get dressed and ride my bike to get to school.
School lasts from 8:00 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon, with a one-hour break in the middle of the day for lunch. I buy my lunch every day in the school café and eat with all my friends at the big table in the center of the café. We usually take about twenty minutes to eat lunch and use the rest of the time to play basketball or soccer.
After school is over, I go directly to baseball practice from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the field down the street from my house. After I get back home, I eat the dinner my mom has prepared and then do my homework. I go immediately to bed after watching TV for exactly one hour, at 9:00 p.m. every night.
