Did you know that a bowl of rice could save your iPod if you drop it in a swimming pool by accident? Or that the camera on your phone could tell you what's wrong with your TV remote control? The experts at Geek Squad have made a gadget (小机件) rescue guide. So, let's take a look at some of their useful advice.

●How to get more juice out of your phone battery( 电池)?

If your battery goes dead but you need to get a number or send one last text, try warming it up. That may give you a tiny bit of power. Take the battery from the phone and rub it between your hands. Then try to start the phone--but use it quickly.

●What to do if your gadget gets wet?

First, try drying it out with a vacuum cleaner. If a vacuum cleaner isn't at hand, fill a pot or bowl with uncooked rice and put your wet gadget inside. The dry, uncooked rice will absorb all the water and, after a few hours, you should be able to use the gadget. Don't forget to remove the battery and SIM card before you dry it.

●What to do if your TV remote control stops working?

Get the camera function up on your phone and point the remote at the lens(镜头 ). When you press a button on the remote, if it's working then the glass bobble(小球) at the front of the remote will light up when you look at it on the screen of your phone. This is because the screen on a phone or digital camera picks up infrared rays(红外线), even though your eyes don't. If the glass bobble doesn't light up, the remote is broken. If it does, the receiving device is broken.

44. If your cell phone falls into a sin(水槽) you can        .

A. warm it up under your arm

B. put it into the uncooked rice

C. press it with both of your hands

D. remove the battery after you dry it

45. Why can a phone be used to prove the TV remote control works well?

A. Because it can receive infrared rays.

B. Because it can reflect infrared rays.

C. Because it can improve the TV remote control.

D. Because it can picture the TV remote control.

46. In which section of a newspaper can we possibly read this text?

A. Entertainment.    B. Finance.     C. Culture.   D. Life.

47. The purpose of the passage is to give people        .

A. professional guides

B. necessary warnings

C. practical tips

D. personal opinions

Squirrels are getting ready for winter. They are looking for nuts and seeds, digging holes in the ground or finding holes in tree trunks. That's where they're storing food they will need during the coming months, when the weather is cold and sometimes snowy.

Squirrels spend a lot of time in trees, which are like restaurants, for them. Among their favorite things to eat are nuts and other parts of trees, like the tender(嫩的 ) buds.

Squirrels may also eat corn, insects and other animals. And, as anyone who has a bird knows, squirrels love birdseed !

Squirrels stay active all winter, so they need a supply of food to help keep up their energy. Squirrels tend to bury food underground, piece by piece. Some squirrels may gather food into piles that they put at the base of trees or bury underground.

When they need the food, the squirrels use memory and smell to help them find what they buried. Sometimes, you'll even see them digging through the snow.

Squirrels make nests in trees, either in the branches or inside holes in the trunks. Some squirrels spend much of the winter in underground tunnels(地道), where it is warmer.

When spring comes, squirrels change their food preferences to new plant growth, like buds and leaves. Sometimes they forget to dig up all the buried nuts.

That's why you 'll sometimes find a tree seedling(树苗) growing in a place where neither you nor your family planted it. It must have been the squirrels.

48. How do the squirrels find the food they buried in the snow?

A. By smell.               B. By memory.

C. By sound.            D. By memory and smell.

49. Which of the following is TRUE?

A. The squirrels never forget to dig out their buried nuts.

B. The squirrels often make nests in the branches.

C. The nests of the squirrels are warm

D. The squirrels in winter are not very active.

50. What does the passage mainly talk about?

A. The food of the squirrels.

B. How the squirrels sleep in winter.

C. The squirrels prepare early for winter.

D. The habit of the squirrels.

51. Which kind of food do the squirrels NOT love?

A. Corn.        B. Nuts.        C. Buds.           D. Apples.

Dear Bobby Brune,

Children learn best when they're having fun. "Jungle Gym Jimmy" is an article for parents and children that teaches playground safety and shows how simply playing can promote good health and fitness. The tips are given through the funny voice of the "tour guide" on the playground, seven-year-old Jimmy. By listening to Jimmy, children learn how to use the equipment safely and how to get the most fun out of a day on the playground.

As a Kid Talk subscriber for the last seven years, I am very familiar with your publication, and feel this article would be a positive addition to the "I Can Do It" section of the magazine. The article has 2,114 words, and has been divided into categories in a way that holds children's interest. Being a mother of four children and using our home as a meeting place for most of the neighborhood, I've had the opportunity to test and confirm that the fun and easy "exercises" offered here are not only effective but are lots of fun for kids.

I've been writing children's stories and articles for several years, and have had many of my stories published in Kids Know Best, a small newspaper that the Cinder Primary School publishes each month. I'm also a founding member of the "Right On Baby" editorial group which publishes a monthly e-zine for parents with newborns, and I'm a contributing editor to "Write Now" , an online site that teaches creative writing. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Claudia Parker
