M: Yes, sorry I’m late. I ran into a lot of traffic on my way home.
W: Bob Saunders called about half an hour ago. He asked you to call him back as soon as you got home.
M: Any other calls for me?
W: Your sister called about Tommy’s birthday, and there was a call from the garage to say that the car will be ready at ten tomorrow. The man said the engine needs repairing.
Conversation 4
M: Now, Jessica, did you get a good view of the accident?
W: Oh, yes. I was standing outside the bank building and I saw it all quite clearly.
M: Now, how fast was the truck moving?
W: Well, quite slowly---about 10 miles an hour. It was coming up York road. I suppose the truck driver knew the lights were going to change. But they were still red when he went over them.
M: I see. What about the car? Was it also driving slowly?
W: it was coming along Union Street about 30 miles per hour. It was a blue Toyota. The driver stopped his car when he saw the truck crossing the street.
M: Did you see what color the traffic light was?
W: Yes, it changed to yellow just before he crossed it.
Conversation 5
M: Hi, Chris! Would you like to do something {ks5u007}with me this weekend?
W: Sure. What about seeing a film?
M: That sounds good to me. Which film do you want to see?
W: Let’s see Action Man 4.
M: I’d rather not. I don’t like violent films. How about going to see Mad Doctor Brown? I hear it’s a really funny film.
W: Ok. Let’s go and see that. When is it on?
M: It’s on at 8 o’clock at the Rex. Shall we have a bite to eat before the film?
W: Sure, that sounds great. What about going to that new Italian restaurant?
M: Great idea! Let’s meet there at six.
W: Ok. I’ll see you there at six. Bye.
Conversation 6
W: Hi!
M: Hi! What’s up?
W: Nothing much. I’m just watching a debate on TV. It’s about no smoking in public places.
M: Oh, yeah. So, what do you think about it?
W: Well, I don’t think people should be allowed to smoke in public places, so I support the suggestion.
M: Really? I’m a smoker, so I should have the right to smoke whenever I want.
W: But don’t you think that non-smokers have rights, too? Why cannot smokers just go outside if they want to smoke?
M: Well, smoking is part of my lifestyle. I can think better if I have a cigarette.
W: I can breathe better if I don’t have to breathe smoke. Smoking is bad for your health. Doctors say that just breathing in other people’s smoke can also cause cancer.
