Someoftheculturalvarietiesinneatnesspracticesresultfromphysicaldifferencesbetweenraces.WhereasmanyAsianmenhavelittlefacialhair,Westernershavealot.Asaresult,mostAmericanmenspendsometimeeachdayshavingortidyingtheirfacialhairtokeepitnice.Americanwomen,ontheotherhand,generallyprefernottobehairyatall.

ThestudyusedasystemofmeasurementcalledtheBodyMassIndex(B­M­I)todefinewordslikeobeseandoverweight.TofindyourB­M­I,divideyourweightinkilogramsbyheightinmeterssquared.AnormalB­M­Iisbetween18.5and24.9.TheB­M­Iofsomeoneoverweightisbetween25and29.5.And,anobesepersonhasaB­M­Iabove30.

Thenewreportsayswidespreadobesityisincreasingtheratesoflong­lastingdiseases,suchasheartdisease.ObesityisalsoresponsibleforanincreasingpartofhealthcarecostsintheUnitedStates.HealthcarecostshavegrownwhilemanyAmericansaregettingfatter.Alackofphysicalexercise,watchingTVtoomuchandeatingjunkfoodcontributetotherisingobesityrate.Thereportsaysthecurrenteconomicrecession(经济衰退)couldworsenobesityratesbyincreasingfoodprices.Thiswouldmakehealthyfoodscostmore.Thereportblamestherecessionforrisingratesofdepression,anxietyandstress,whicharecloselylinkedtoobesityinmanycases.
