told me that he was afraid I would ask him ∧ money if I helped him in this way. Then I fell

for

into deep thoughts: Was it money which came between us? I agree that money is become

thought              that                                    becoming

more and more important in our society, and it should not be everything. We should try my

but                                    our

best to help others and trust each other. If everyone does this, our society will be better and better.

(One possible version)

Dear Wang Ming,

I’m sorry to hear that you got hurt in the accident and met lots of problems in your life.

Sunshine is everywhere as long as you have a positive attitude to life. Sometimes we cannot change the fact, but we can adapt ourselves to new situations with our efforts. You can learn from the story of Helen Keller, an American woman. She couldn’t see and hear, but she went to college, wrote nearly a dozen books, traveled all over the world, met 12 US presents, and lived to 87.

It is possible for you to find a good job by learning certain professional skills. Helping others can give you a sense of satisfaction and success.

Forget about unhappy things in life, never look down upon yourself, and become a member of our society just like others.

Best wishes.

Yours ,

Li Peng

Listening texts:

M; Lisa, what languages do you speak?

W: As you know, Korea is my mother tongue. I also speak English and Chinese.

Text 2:

M: That box looks heavy, Jane. Can I help you carry it up to your office?

W: Thanks, George. Mattew will come to help me soon.

Text 3:

M: Excuse me, what time is it, Jessica?

W: Uh, it’s seven fifty.

M: Huh, my watch is half an hour slow. Roy will arrive in ten minutes.

Text 4:

W: Tickets … tickets, please. Would you mind if I saw your ticket, Sir?

M: Uh, now where did I put it? Oh, here it is.

W: Thanks. Your seat is next to the exit. The film will start shortly.

Text 5:

W: Hi, Veronica. What’s going on? You look worried.

M: Oh, my car’s having problems again, but I don’t have enough money to get it fixed.

Text 6:

W: Hi, Steve. What are you doing here?

M: I’m meeting a friend here for dinner. How about you?

W: I bought a textbook at the bookstore. Now I’m on my way home.

M: Haven’t you finished university yet?

W: I have one more year left, and then I’m done.

M:What’s your major?

W: Sociology.

M: How do you like your major?

W: I really find the subject very interesting. I’m enjoying all my classes.

M: That’s great.

W: I’d better go now. I don’t want to miss the bus.

M: Alright, I’ll talk to you later.

W: Okay. See you later.

Text 7

W: Hi, Mike. What have you been up to?

M: Not much. I started exercising.

W: Trying to get in shape?

M: Yeah, and I need to start improving my health.

W: Me too. What are you doing besides exercising?

M: That’s about all.

W: I think if you eat better, it will also help a lot.

M: Sleep is important too. I heard people who sleep an average of eight hours a day have less health problems.

W: Looks like there are a lot of things to do to stay healthy.

M: True. But I think it is worth it. When you get older, you want to be healthy and active.

W: Absolutely.

Text 8:

W: Hello. Pacific Bell. May I help you?

M: My name is Jeffrey Schaefer.

W: For security purposes, Mr. Schaefer, may I have your date of birth, please?

M: It’s June 5th, 1978.

W: Thank you. Now, when would you it to be disconnected?

M: Tomorrow by 5:00 p.m.

W: 5:00 p.m., June 15th. That’s OK.

M: Thanks a lot, Madam.

W: You are welcome. Bye.

Text 9

M: Have you ever taken history?

W: Yeah. Last semester.

M: Who was your professor?

W: It was Professor Johnson.

M: I have him this semester. What did you think of him?

W: He’s a terrible instructor and demands a lot, but fortunately, he’s an easy grader.

M: What did you end up getting?

W: I got an A. Sounds good. None of my test scores were that high, so I don’t know how I got a perfect grade.

M: I think so too. Are you enjoying the class so far?

W: I hate it and I was about to drop out. But after hearing about your experience, I think I will continue.

M: Yes. Definitely stay in the class. You will get a better grade than your test scores. He does that deliberately to make all the students study hard.

W: Thanks for letting me know. I feel better now.

Text 10

Good afternoon, everyone! I am Lorenzo from Brazil, and today I’m very pleased to be doing this speech on behalf of Class 2A.

The students from Class 2A come from six different countries: Brazil, Canada, France, Hungary, Indonesia and Thailand. Even though we have very distinct cultures and speak different languages, we became good friends soon after starting our Japanese course.

Because we were all beginners in Japanese, our class loved studying grammar! I’d like to use this opportunity to apologize to all the teachers, for asking so many tough questions in Japanese and giving them such a hard time! However, through their great effort we were able to truly improve our Japanese, as you can see in the “Conversation Challenge” video!

Finally, I’d like to express my gratitude to all the teachers, for their guidance and inspiration. Though the course has ended, I believe we will all continue to study Japanese/

Thank you very much!
