You might think that “global warming” means nothing more than a rise in the world's temperature. But rising sea levels caused by it have resulted in the first evacuation(撤离)of an island nation—the citizens of Tuvalu will have to leave their homeland.
During the 20th century ,sea level rose 8—12 inches. As a result. Tuvalu has experienced lowland flooding of salt water which has polluted the country's drinking water.
Paani Laupepa, a Tuvaluan government official ,reported to the Earth Policy Institute that the nation suffered an unusually high number of fierce storms in the past ten years. Many scientists
connect higher surface water temperatures resulting from global warming to greater and more damaging storms.Laupepa expressed dissatisfaction with the United States for refusing to sign
the Kyoto Protocol, an international agreement calling for industrialized nations to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions(导致温室效应的气体排放),which are a main cause of global warming.“By refusing to sign the agreement, the US has effectively taken away the freedom of future generations of Tuvaluans to live where their forefathers
have lived for thousands of years,” Laupepa told the BBC.Tuvalu has asked Australia and New Zealand to allow the gradual move of its people to both countries.
Tuvalu is not the only country that is vulnerable (易受影响的)to rising sea levels .Maumoon Gayoon ,president of the Maldives, told the United Nations that global warming has made his country of 311,000 an “endangered nation”.

Want a glance of the future of health care? Take a look at the way the various net works of people about patient care are being connected to one another, and how this new connectivity is being
used to deliver medicine to the patient no matter where he or she may be.
Online doctors offering advice based on normal symptoms are the most obvious example. Increasingly, however, remote diagnosis will be based on real physiological data from the actual patient.
A Group from the University of Kentucky has shown that by using personal data assistance plus a mobile phone, it is perfectly practical to send a patient’s important signs over the telephone.
With this kind of equipment, the cry asking whether there was a doctor in the house could well be a thing of the past.
Other medical technology groups are working on applying telemedicine to rural (county) care. And at least one team wants to use telemedicine as a tool for disaster need especially after
earthquake. On the whole, the trend is towards providing global access to medical data and expert’s opinions.
But there is one problem. Bandwidth is the limiting factor for sending complex medical pictures around the world, CT photos being one of the biggest bandwidth users. Communication satellites
may be able to deal with the short-term needs during disasters such as earthquakes or wars. But medicine is looking towards both the second-generation Internet and thirdgeneration mobile phones for the future of remote medical service.
Doctors have met to discuss computer-based tools for medical diagnosis, training and telemedicine. With the falling price of broadband communications, the new technologies should start a new time when telemedicine and the
sharing of medical information, expert’s opinions and diagnosis are common.
