How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood(心情)? Do you let a bad driver, impolite waiter, rude boss,or an insensitive employee ⑴                    your day?

One day I was in a taxi and we headed ⑵                     the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car drove out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his  39 ,slide sideways, and at the very last moment our car stopped and ⑶                  the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car looked around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just ⑸                  and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really friendly. So I asked,"Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” This is             my taxi driver taught me what I now call "The Law of the Garbage Truck".

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage ⑹              up,they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally; Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.

So, Love the people who treat you right. Ignore the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you  ⑽                 it!

I never had a father, though in my neighborhood that's not unusual. I know some kids just like me. You have to watch yourself. There are fights and killings all the time. I have friends who 1.              up in jail or pregnant. I could have ended up that way, too, 2           Mr Clark and my mom wouldn't let that happen.

Mr Clark worked long hours, 3.               sure I did my work. My grades rose. In fact, I did so well that in sixth grade, I entered the gifted class, and Mr Clark was the teacher. I felt so 4.             to have him for a second year!

He took our class to see The Phantom of the Opera. Before the show, he 5.             us to dinner at a restaurant and taught us not to talk 6.       our mouths full. We didn't want to let him 7.            ,so we listened to him attentively.

None of us were surprised when Mr Clark was selected as Disney's 2000 Teacher of the Year. But 10.              it came time to draw names, Mr Clark said, “You're all going.”

He got donations to fly all 37 of us out to Disneyland in California and put us up at the Hilton. People were 11             ,but Mr Clark really cared about us. There's no way I can imagine most teachers doing that. No way.  But he saw something in us that 12.              else saw.

On graduation day, there were a lot of tears. We didn't want his class to 13.             . In the new school year, we were all happy when Mr Clark 14.                up in our class once again. He's been a constant in our lives.

In 2003, Mr Clark took some of us on a trip to South Africa to display school supplies and visit orphanages. It was the most amazing 15.              of my life. It's now my turn to one day start a group of women's clubs, helping people from all backgrounds.

War, money and power are a few things that countries and people are concerned about.

⑴              I agree that those things are important, I believe that everyone should start to ⑵                 more on a growing problem—global warming.

Global warming will not only affect our country and our generation, but also the entire world and future generations. It is occurring because the weather has been a lot ⑶             over the past few years, which ⑷               in the melting(融化) of the ice in the Antarctic. This will soon cause water levels to ⑸                   and flood parts of the world.

Many people ignore this problem because they feel as if they can't do anything about it and have more important things to worry about. If we all ⑹                so, then our ozone layer(臭氧层) will be ⑺                  and the planet will no longer be able to make life continue to exist. We should do our best to limit the use of our planet's ⑻                    resources (资源) and keep our air clean. ⑼               , future generations will  ⑽                       from our mistake.

Some might feel that they can't ⑾               global warming from continuing. But if every single person does his or her⑿                in keeping the air clean, then it will become a worldwide effort. Sure, there are some things that cause pollution and that we won't be able to fully change. This may include cars burning oil, but we can at least adjust some of these things. When I come ⑴                 a good article in reading newspapers, I often want to cut and keep it. It may be a discussion of the way to⑶               in good health, or advice about how to behave and conduct oneself in society. If I cut the front article, the opposite one is likely to suffering ⑷                 , ⑸             out half of it or keeping the text without the title. Therefore, the scissors(剪子)would stay before they start, or halfway done when I find out the regretful result.

Sometimes two things are to be done at the same time, both worth your attention. You can only take up one of them, the other has to wait or be ⑹                up.

But you know the future is unpredictable—the changed situation may not allow you to do what is left ⑺             . Thus you are⑻                  in a difficult position and feel sad. How ⑼                that nice chances and brilliant ideas should gather around all at once? It may happen that your life changes greatly on your preference of one choice to the other.

In fact that is what⑽              is like: we are often faced with the two⑾

sides of a thing which are both desirable like a newspaper cutting. It often occurs that your ⑿

is drawn to one thing only before we get into another. The ⒀              may be more important than the latter and give rise to divided mind. I ⒁               remember a philosopher's remarks, “When one door shuts, another opens in life.” So a casual⒂

A boy was walking home from school when he saw a large, tempting (诱人的) apple on one of the branches of an apple tree ⑴                  out over a tall fence. The boy wasn’t much of a fruit-eater,  preferring a bar of chocolate if given the choice, ⑵              , as they say, the forbidden fruit can be tempting. Seeing the apple, the boy wanted it. Failure, though, is exactly how dreams are realized. It is one of the most important tools we have, because it teaches us invaluable 9      . And, when we learn these lessons well, we are ready 10               success.?

The message I always gave my children was that you are able to do anything your heart desires. Remember the saying, “Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.” There are 11

As a music teacher, I have always known that music touches the soul. It can break ⑴              all kinds of barriers(障碍)to reach students in a very special way. It can be the ⑵               for each child to find their light. I would like to ⑶              a story about it.

For a few years I was blessed with the opportunity to teach disabled students. One of my most memorable students was a fiveyearold girl called Vanessa, who had difficulty walking, and could not speak. We ⑷

sat on the floor for our music lessons and Vanessa liked to ⑸         on my lap(大腿). One of her favorite songs was John the Rabbit. It was a call and response song where I sang the call and the students ⑹

twice while singing the repeating phrase,“ Oh, yes !” Vanessa liked to put her hands together with mine and clap with me. We probably performed that song during every class, Vanessa and I clapping together. But she

⑺                 said or sang a word.

One day, when the song was finished, Vanessa turned around,⑻                me in the eye, clapped her tiny hands twice and said the words “Oh, yes!” I opened my mouth in ⑼               and for that moment I was the one who could not speak. When my heart finally started beating again, I looked over at the assistant teacher to find her also ⑽                . Through music, we had made an awesome connection.

Several years later, I met Vanessa on the street in town. She waved with a big ⑾                on her face and then clapped her hands twice, imitating the song we had ⑿                  so many times in our music class. The little girl, ⒀                  her connection with music, left an impression on me that will last forever. Every child has the ⒁                   to learn and grow.
