第三部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A,B,C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
The new university hospital in Trenton, which the Health Minister Victoria Culley has described as a “shining example” to hospitals all over the country, has been open now for over six months. Having heard several complimentary (赞美的) comments about the organization and efficiency of the place, I decided to see for myself.
In spite of arriving early, I found that there were already long queues at the reception desks. While I was waiting, I looked around and had to admit that it is an impressive building: large and light with marble everywhere. Eventually my turn came and I presented my doctor’s letters to the receptionist, who informed me that I was in the X-ray queue and I’d have to go to another queue and start again! I couldn’t believe it and asked her if it might be possible to give me an appointment card anyway without making me queue up again. She informed me it was no good arguing with her and I should have read the sign, an almost invisible piece of card saying “X-rays” just in front of her where very few people can have seen it. No matter how hard I tried to persuade her, she wouldn’t give me an appointment card for a blood test, so I started queuing again and finally got the card at 8:30! I then set off for the blood test room, following the nice new signs until they suddenly stopped and I realized that I was in a part of the hospital that hasn’t been finished yet! When I got to the door I saw a notice saying “Back in 10 minutes”. I sat down and waited for 30 minutes before a doctor appeared and told me to come in without, of course, apologizing for keeping me waiting. I asked him why I’d had to wait and he explained he’d had to help out in another ward which was understaffed as a result of a flu epidemic (流感) among the doctors!
I got out of the hospital at 9:45 a.m. and breathed a sigh of relief. I’m now waiting for the results.
So, Mrs. Culley, a far from rosy picture. Certainly the public should be under no illusions (错觉) that things have changed for the better. Perhaps you should visit the hospital as an anonymous outpatient (门诊病人) rather than a government minister if you really want to know what it’s like unless, as I suspect, you don’t actually care about much.
56. Why did the author go to the hospital?
A. Because he was asked to investigate the hospital.
B. Because he wanted to find out the truth.
C. Because he wanted to prove it was a good hospital.
D. Because he had a flu and needed the doctor’s help.
57. What did the author find when he got to the hospital?
A. There were no doctors at all.
B. Doctors were polite and patient to patients.
C. A lot of people were waiting in line.
D. There were nice new signs everywhere in the hospital.
58. What made the author stand in the wrong queue?
A. The receptionist’s guidance. B. His poor eyesight.
C. Other patients’ influence. D. The unclear sign.
59. The best title for the passage should be “________”.
A. White elephant or shining example B. An unforgettable experience
C. A good lesson D. An annoying receptionist

If there's a child in your house who likes pixies (精灵), nature, or magic, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is sure to be a hit. This beautifully animated film (动画片) is a first class production in every way, and features the familiar voices of Kristin Chenoweth, Anjelica Huston, Jane Horrocks, Lucy Liu, and Raven Symone. The movie offers up an adventure that’s easy enough to follow, but complex enough to hold one's attention, and even throws in a nice little moral about friendship. What can I say? I'm pleasantly surprised.
The up-and-coming Mae Whitman voices Tinker Bell herself, a far more dynamic character than we met in Peter Pan. Though Tinker still possesses her fiery temper, it doesn't manifest itself immediately, and takes a backseat to this pixie's many good qualities. As it turns out, Tinker Bell is extremely skilled at tinkering(修补), so she is a natural choice to build a special scepter(拐杖), for Pixie Hollow's Autumn Celebration. The scepter will hold the moonstone through which the light of the Blue Moon will pass, supplying Pixie Hollow with enough pixie dust for the year ahead.
For days, Tinkers works hard on the perfect scepter design while her good friend Terrence does his best to assist. When Terrence accidentally breaks the Moon Stone, Tinker Bell "explodes" and sends him away. One of Tinker's more literal friends finds this extremely concerning, as she doesn't quite understand that the outburst was emotional rather than physical ----- very funny indeed.
After hearing the legend of the lost treasure, Tinker Bell strikes out on her own to find a new Moon Stone. She faces many difficulties and meets new friends along the way, but when Terrence comes to the rescue at Tinker's darkest hour, she realizes the value of a truly loyal friend. Though the film is engaging and offers a positive message to young viewers, it's the animation that makes Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure stand out. Pixie Hollow is a charming, visually stunning world basked in lush colors. It's so lovely, so detailed, so three-dimensional that you almost want to step inside.
60. From the first paragraph, we can learn that .
A. many famous actors act important roles in the film
B. the plot of the film is attractive and easy to understand
C. the writer feels surprised at the message of friendship in the film
D. the film Tinker Bill and the Lost Treasure may disappoint you if you love magic tales
61. The word “manifest" in the second paragraph means " ".
A. occur B. hide C. display D. contradict
62. In the writer's opinion, the characteristics of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure are the following EXCEPT .
A. the attractive details
B. the lively animation characters
C. the three-dimensional animation
D. the moving love story between Tinker Bell and Terrence
63. The article picked from a website is a(n) .
A. movie poster B. movie review
C. introduction to a book D. person introduction

You wake up in the morning, the day is beautiful and the plans for the day are what you have been looking forward to for a long time. Then the telephonerings, you say hello, and the drama starts. The person on the other end has a depressing tone in his voice as he starts to tell you how terrible his morning is and that there is nothing to look forward to. You are still in a wonderful mood? Impossible!
Communicating with negative people can wash out your happiness. It may not change what you think, but communicating long enough with them will make you feel depressed for a moment or a long time.
Life brings ups and downs, but some people are stuck in the wrong idea that life has no happiness to offer. They only feel glad when they make others feel bad. No wonder they can hardly win others’ pity or respect.
When you communicate with positive people, your spirit stays happy and therefore more positive things are attracted. When the dagger(匕首)of a negative person is put in you, you feel the heavy feeling that all in all, brings you down.
Sometimes we have no choice but to communicate with negative people. This could be a co-worker, or a relative. In this case, say what needs to be said as little as possible. Sometimes it feels good to let out your anger back to the negative person, but all this is to lower you to that same negative level and they won’t feel ashamed of themselves about that.
Negativity often affects happiness without even being realized. The negative words of another at the start of the day can cling to(附着)you throughout the rest of your day, which makes you feel bad and steals your happiness. Life is too short to feel negative. Stay positive and avoid negativity as much as possible.
64. The purpose of the first paragraph is to ______.
A. make a comparison B. introduce a topic
C. offer an evidence D. describe a daily scene
65. Some negative people base their happiness on _______.
A. other people’s pity for them B. other people’s respect for them
C. building up a positive attitude D. making other people unhappy
66. According to the passage, to reduce negative people’s influence on us, we are advised to .
A. show our dissatisfaction to negative people
B. communicate with negative people as little as possible
C. make negative people feel ashamed of themselves
D. change negative people’s attitudes to life
67. What is the author’s attitude towards negative people?
A. Favorable. B. Indifferent. C. Critical. D. Supportive.

Late last summer, I was introduced to a new special someone. We met at an Apple product announcement. She was helpful, smart, and even funny, talking of jokes and making me laugh. What more could a man ask for?
Since then, we have had some major communication issues. She frequently misunderstands what I’m saying. Sometimes she is just unavailable. Often, she responds with the same repetitive statement. Her name is Siri.
At first, Siri, the voice-activated digital assistant on Apple Iphones, seemed a little too good to be true. Siri cheated me into a relationship promising to help me set up appointments, to gently wake me in the morning for work, and to give me the ability to text someone while I was driving.
It didn’t work out that way. “There’s something wrong, and I can’t answer your questions right now. Please try again in a little while,” Siri will say when I ask something, or: “I’m really sorry about this, but I can’t take any requests right now. Please try again in a little while.” She is always polite. But I’m starting to suspect that “I’m really sorry” is just something Siri says to shut me up.
Apple introduced Siri as a beta test, meaning it was still a work in progress. That was unusual for Apple. It wanted a head start. But it doesn’t seem ready to change anything yet. Many people I have spoken to have switched Siri off and turned to the iPhone’s voice dictation service, which is more reliable because it doesn’t use Siri’s artificial intelligence software.
Over time, things have really gone bad between Siri and me. We hardly speak anymore. Although she doesn’t know this, I’ve started seeing someone else. Her name is Google Voice Search (GVS). GVS, available in the latest operating software, is a much better listener. It’s absolutely smarter. If I ask GVS a question, like, “Who is Tim Cook?”, it responds with an answer “ He’s the chief executive of Apple”. If I ask Siri the same question, the response is: “I don’t see Tim Cook in your contacts.”
68. How did the author feel when he first met Siri?
A. He felt quite satisfied with her functions.
B. He didn’t care what functions she had at all.
C. He felt unsatisfied with her limited functions.
D. He felt she was smart but very boring.
69. What makes the author feel annoyed about Siri later in life?
A. She is always running out of electricity in a short time.
B. She frequently fails to finish what he wishes for.
C. She often receives some calls from strangers.
D. She is always out of order in the countryside.
70. Why do more people choose not to use Siri any longer?
A. Because her appearance looks so ugly.
B. Because her price is higher and higher.
C. Because her artificial intelligence software isn’t reliable.
D. Because Apple fails to make more successful advertisements.
第二节(共5小题;每题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
It’s normal to wake briefly during the night. 71 But if you’re waking up during the night and having trouble falling back asleep, the following tips may help.
The key to getting back to sleep is continuing to prepare your body for sleep, so remain in bed in a relaxed position. Hard as it may be, try not to stress over the fact that you’re awake, 72 So just focus on the feelings and sensations in your body.
If you are finding it hard to fall back asleep, try a relaxation technique such as visualization, deep breathing, or meditation (沉思). 73 Remind yourself that although they’re not a replacement for sleep, rest and relaxation still help refresh your body. Do a quiet, non-stimulating activity.
If you’ve been awake for more than 15 minutes, try getting out of bed and doing a quiet, non-stimulating activity, such as reading a book. Keep the lights dim so as not to think that it’s time to wake up. 74 The type of light they send out is stimulating(刺激)the brain. A light snack might help relax you, but be careful not to eat so much that your body begins to expect a meal at that time of the day.
If you wake during the night feeling anxious about something, make a brief note of it on paper. 75 You may find that it will be easier to solve it when you are fresh. Similarly, if a great idea is keeping you awake, make a note of it on paper and fall back to sleep, knowing you’ll be much more productive and creative after a good night’s rest.

Dear Smith,
How are you? Today I’ve got a wonderful news to tell you. I had been offered a job at a
company in England for my good performance. About one thousand graduates took exam
for it, but only a few was chosen and I was one of them. However, my mother is not happy
about it. She is strong against my going there. She says it is so far away that she won’t see
me for all the year and she is afraid I will feel lonely. She can’t imagine such young a girl
live alone. She advises me to work in Beijing instead. Then I’ll be able to continue living for
her. How can I persuade him to accept the fact I am an adult?
Best wishes.
