The desert is not always hot. There are many mountains in the Sahara, and some of them have snow in winter. In some places, people grow fruit. There are also different animals there, such as snakes, foxes and birds.

Thousands of years ago, the Sahara was not a desert at all. There were many plants and rivers. As the weather changed, it became hot and dry.
