Review

Have the students answer some comprehension questions about the main text.

T: Where is Mike going next summer?

S: He is going to Shanghai.

T: Why does Mike’s father prefer to travel by airplane?

S: Because it’s faster.

T: Why does Wang Dandan think traveling by train is great?

S: Because we can look out the window and see the cities, hills, and farms.

On your own

Have the students complete the dialogue using the expressions given.

T: Choose the proper expression for each blank.

T: Check your answers with your partner.

Have the students role-play the dialogue with their partner.

Pair work

Some underlined parts of the dialogue should be changed to meet students’ new ideas. Let the students practice the dialogue with their partner.

T: I want you to read the questions in the box and write your own answers.

T: Read the sample dialogue and practice it with your partner, taking the two roles ( A and B ) in turn. Use your own words to explain why you prefer one kind of travel.

If time allows, ask for volunteers to act out the dialogue.

T: Let’s have some volunteers. Who wants to act out the dialogue with the partner?

Model Dialogue

A: What are the two ways you usually travel?

B: I usually ride the bus or ride the train.

A: How do you prefer to travel?

B: I prefer to ride the train.

A: Why?

B: It’s fun and fast. What about you?

A: I prefer to take a plane. It’s faster than the train.

Group work

Activity A

1. Ask the students to look at the pictures on the top of the page. Ask what kind of transportation is shown in each.

T: Let’s talk about the pictures. What is the boy in the first picture doing?

S: He is walking.

T: What about the other pictures? What are they?

S: They show a plane, a bike, a taxi, a bus, a subway, and a train.

2. Put the students into groups of four. Tell each group to choose three ways to travel. They should write down the good things and bad things about three ways for each.

T: You are going to work in groups of four. From the picture above this exercise, choose three ways to travel. Think about good things and bad things about each of your choices. Write two good or bad things for each choice.

Model Dialogue

A: Let’s pick three different ways to travel. What do you want to choose?

B: How about walking? It’s good for our health and very inexpensive.

C: Good idea. What are the bad things about walking?

D: It’s hard to walk in bad weather.

A: Right. And we can easily get tired.

Activity B

Now let each student change to a new group. Each student should read the good and the bad things about one way of traveling. The rest of the group members should guess what form of transportation he or she is describing.

T: For this activity, you need to get in a new group. Each of you should take turns telling the good things and bad things. The others should guess what form of transportation it is.

Model Dialogue

A: Let me go first. This is good for our health. We don’t need money. It’s tiring for a long trip. It’s not good for bad weather. What is it?

B: It’s walking.

A: Right. Tell me about one way to travel.

B: It’s fast. It’s not so expensive. It’s sometimes crowded. It’s sometimes late because of the traffic.

C: Is it the bus?

B: Yes. That’s it!

Practice the ability of writing a passage using the message on page 39.

应对措施本课学习局限书本知识。

由于这一课是复习课,没有更多新知识,所以前面可组织学生来复习,而group work部分可以指导学生完成任务之后写一篇作文。如:

一、以竞赛形式复习所学单词,以研讨形式做完对话1与2,通过表演掌握对话,当然不能忘记复述课文,和语法句型的练习。

二、写一篇记叙文,如:My Classmate为题来写作。
